Thinking of staying indoors all winter? Think again! Embrace the weather at South Bend’s St. Patrick’s County Park. This beautiful winter location offers lots of events for lovers of winter sports and all things snow. Best of all, it’s just a short trip from Main Street Village!
St. Patrick’s County Park covers 400 acres and offers hiking paths, lakes, and views of the nearby St. Joseph River. Notable park features include bald eagles, the landmark “Red Barn” (one of the largest wooden barns left in the county), and Notre Dame’s “Experimental Ecosystem Facility.” You’ll also find seasonal events that celebrate the local environment and wildlife.
Do you love skiing? Then attend one of the events that promote cross-country skiing in the park. From lessons to guided adventures, the park is full of opportunities to enjoy the snow. Plus, you can complete your adventures by warming up in the nearby lodge.
One exciting upcoming event is “Skiing Under the Stars.” This event is recurring, happening every second Friday through February 2nd. Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to ski by the light of park luminaries.
Also coming up is the “Valentine’s Day Sweet Ski” on February 11th. This event takes place at the Red Barn and ski rentals and snacks are provided. You must register by February 7th to take part in this event.

Other Winter Exploration Events
The park also invites you to take advantages of several opportunities to explore its natural locations with a variety of official outings. Coming up in February is “Sunset, Snowshoes, and S’mores.” This nighttime event focuses on snowshoeing into the magical winter sunset and includes s’mores as well as hot chocolate. Register by February 19th to reserve your spot!
Additionally, there will be an adults-only snow tubing event on February 14th. Tickets are just $5, but space is limited to 40 people. Register now!
