Volunteer for Worthy Causes In South Bend, Indiana

Cheerful helpers working for worthy causes in South Bend.

Many experts contend that volunteerism is an essential American value. Certainly, volunteering is a great way to give back to society and to learn about an array of worthy causes. If you’d like to volunteer, these worthy causes in South Bend may be right for you:

Food Bank of Northern Indiana

The Food Bank of Northern Indiana was established in 1993. Three years later, it became a certified food bank in America’s Second Harvest National Food Bank network. Today, the food bank partners with local and national manufacturers to feed the hungry. Last year, it distributed seven million pounds of food to those in need.

Volunteers are vital to the food bank’s operation. Approximately 50 volunteers must be on hand daily to keep the food bank running at optimal efficiency. Shifts are available Monday through Friday, and duties include cleaning, sorting food donations, and fulfilling orders at the warehouse.

Pet Refuge

Pet Refuge is a no-kill shelter established in 1978. It focuses on finding permanent families for homeless cats and dogs. The shelter aims to protect every animal in its custody and to educate the public about proper pet care.

Pet Refuge has an opportunity for you, regardless of the number of hours you can volunteer. Depending on your interests, tasks may include cleaning, feeding, fundraising, building maintenance, or office work.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Of Michiana

The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Michiana has served families since 2002. The building spans 15,000 square feet of space and comes complete with 20 overnight guest suites, playrooms, and laundry rooms. At its heart, the Ronald McDonald House provides accommodation services for families of sick or injured children receiving inpatient medical care at Beacon Children’s Hospital.

Families who need accommodation stay free of charge.

The volunteers are typically the first people guests see when they register at the home. In addition to assisting with check-ins, they also help with basic cleaning and sorting of food donations. Some people even volunteer to be Chef for the Day or serve on the Coffee Cart Team.

All in all, there are many opportunities to volunteer for worthy causes in South Bend. Our vibrant community stands ready to join you in fulfilling our duties to our fellow Americans.
