With a little creativity, you can beat cabin fever this winter. In that light, why not join a few friends for food and fun? If you live at Main Street Village, South Bend’s Irish pubs offer everything from delicious Shepherd’s Pie to lively trivia nights.
Corby’s Irish Pub
In 1988, Rosario “Ross” Mittiga, a 44-year-old Italian immigrant bought a South Bend pub named the Cap-n-Cork Lounge. Soon after, representatives from Tri-Star Pictures approached Ross. They wanted to film several movie scenes in the bar, which they would call Corby’s. For two weeks, Ross’ pub remained closed to the public.
During the first week, workers came in to renovate the place. In the second week, filming commenced. Today, the pub (which still retains its movie name) features several gorgeous murals from its filming days. And, locals maintain the pub’s traditional thin-crust pizzas are its main attraction. Undeniably, Corby’s has achieved landmark status with both locals and tourists.
Fiddler’s Hearth is a lively public house that turns strangers into friends. The pub proudly represents the seven Celtic nations of Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Isle of Man, Cornwall, Brittany, and Galicia. It has been a local favorite since 2002 and invites everyone to enjoy a pint and a song by the crackling fireplace.
On Tuesdays, patrons enjoy “Old Timey Music” sessions, while Wednesdays bring acoustic open stage nights. If you’re hungry, the menu offers incredible options like bangers & mash, Molly Malone Seafood Stew, corned beef & cabbage, and Gaelic steak.
O’Rourke’s Public House
O’Rourke’s takes diners on a culinary journey through Ireland. It features a cozy setting and unique artifacts from the Emerald Isle. Visitors can enjoy trivia on Mondays and sing their hearts out on Karaoke Tuesdays. If you’re looking for great Irish food, the menu offerings won’t disappoint. Be sure to try the Guinness beef stew, fish & chips, and bangers & spuds. All of the dishes pair well with Indiana’s largest selection of Irish whiskey.
