If you’re an animal lover and looking for more ways to help Michiana animals, here are three local organizations you can support right now. Just by donating what you can from the comfort of your Granger apartment, you can make a difference in the lives of animals.
This South Bend zoo is the oldest in Indiana. From lemurs and leopards to rattlesnakes, hawks, and alligators, there are over 450 animals currently being supported and studied there. You can support the zoo’s efforts by donating to its Animal Care Fund. The zoo is also a designated nonprofit, so the money goes directly to supporting the keepers, veterinary staff, and animal residents.
This animal shelter’s mission is to provide for the welfare of all the animals in its facility and to support families through the pet adoption process. You can support the organization by donating to its cause as well as participate in its adoption programs. Pet Refuge also has a public food program that provides cat and dog food to owners in need.
Second Chance Small Dog Rescue
This Elkhart nonprofit organization is a volunteer-run shelter that rescues small dogs, rehabilitates them, and places them in loving homes. Learn more about this non-profit organization and its mission here. Your donation will go directly to the care of the animals and staff salaries. If you’d like to adopt a pet, take a look at the canine friends you can pick.
All in all, there are many ways to help Michiana animals. With your donations, these shelters and rescues can save many animals in need.
